New Delhi / Hyderabad, August 10 (Maxim News): Telangana Special Representative A.P. Jithender Reddy has urged the Centre to approve the Hyderabad Bengaluru Defence Industrial Corridor.
Jithender Reddy raised the demand during a meeting with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.
Khammam MP R. Raghuram Reddy and Mahabubabad MP Balram Naik accompanied him during the meeting.
Jithender Reddy reiterated Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s request to formally notify the proposed corridor. He sought its recognition as a Defence and Aerospace Corridor of the Government of India.
He also requested the Centre to place the Hyderabad Bengaluru corridor on par with the existing defence corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
Hyderabad seeks bigger role in defence manufacturing
Jithender Reddy highlighted Hyderabad’s established position in India’s aerospace and defence sector. The city hosts more than a dozen major defence public sector undertakings and strategic DRDO laboratories.
He also pointed to the presence of more than 1,500 aerospace and defence MSMEs in Telangana. These companies support manufacturing, technology development and supply chains across the sector.
According to the Telangana government, the state recorded 100 percent growth in aerospace and defence exports during 2025–26.
Jithender Reddy said the proposed corridor could build on this existing industrial base. He said it could also attract new investments and strengthen the domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem.
Furthermore, he said the corridor could accelerate research and development activities. It could also support infrastructure development and capacity building across the aerospace and defence sectors.
The proposal could help Telangana deepen its role in the country’s defence production network. It could also support the Centre’s Make in India initiative and reduce dependence on defence imports.
Jithender Reddy said stronger regional defence infrastructure would contribute to India’s overall defence preparedness. He also stressed the potential for the corridor to create opportunities for industries and technology companies.
Rajnath Singh responded positively to the request, according to the Telangana government. The Defence Minister assured the delegation that the proposal would receive due consideration.
The meeting comes as Telangana continues to seek greater central support for its aerospace and defence manufacturing ecosystem. Formal recognition of the proposed corridor would mark a significant step if the Centre approves the request. (Maxim News)
