Andhra Pradesh economy records 10.7 percent growth despite El Nino

Amravati, Aug 11 (Maxim News): Andhra Pradesh recorded strong economic growth despite El Nino related weather concerns, according to the state Planning Department.

The department submitted its July 2026 economic report to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. The report highlighted growth across agriculture, industry and services.

Andhra Pradesh recorded a 10.7 percent growth rate in the second quarter of 2025-26. Agriculture led the growth with 13.5 percent. Meanwhile, the industrial sector grew 10.6 percent. The services sector recorded 9.9 percent growth.

The report also noted a steady improvement in the state’s overall growth rate. Andhra Pradesh recorded 6.5 percent growth in 2023-24. That figure rose to 9.9 percent by 2025-26.

The Planning Department said the state has maintained growth above the national average for the past two years. Therefore, the latest figures point to continued expansion across key sectors.

AP economy targets higher growth amid El Nino

The AP economy also showed gains in tax collections and exports. Technology driven measures helped increase GST collections by 21 percent.

GST revenue reached Rs 13,282 crore during the period covered by the report. General exports also rose by 10.5 percent to Rs 16,322 crore.

STPI exports recorded a stronger rise of 32.2 percent. Commercial vehicle registrations also increased by 51.6 percent.

The state further reported progress in major investment projects. Mega projects worth Rs 2.88 lakh crore reached a grounding level of 75.4 percent.

However, the government remains concerned about the possible impact of El Nino. Weather conditions could affect water availability and agricultural activity.

Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to prepare a comprehensive action plan. The government aims to achieve a 15 percent growth rate despite the weather challenge.

He also directed departments to ensure that people do not face additional price burdens. Officials must use available resources efficiently and focus on measurable outcomes.

The Chief Minister also called for contingency plans based on water availability. He stressed the need to increase value addition to agricultural and other products.

Furthermore, officials must prepare detailed reports at district, Assembly constituency and mandal levels. These reports should outline the steps needed to meet the state’s growth targets.

The government will therefore focus on sustaining economic growth while managing weather related risks. The latest report places higher growth, investment and resource management at the centre of its strategy.(Maxim News)
