Kurnool, August 13 (Maxim News): YSR Congress Party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that misuse of power has reached an extreme level in Andhra Pradesh.
He made the remarks after meeting MLA Virupakshi at Kurnool District Jail. Jagan said the MLA’s arrest showed how the government was allegedly using state machinery against political opponents.
He accused the government of running what he called a “Red Book Constitution”. He also alleged that police were filing cases against victims instead of protecting them.
Jagan questions police action against MLA
Jagan claimed that authorities were registering cases against people who questioned the government. He alleged that police arrested Virupakshi during the night despite his position as an elected MLA.
He further alleged that officials entered the MLA’s residence and damaged doors during the operation. Jagan also claimed that police took away CCTV footage from the house.
According to Jagan, the arrest took place around 2.45 am. He questioned the need for such an operation against an elected public representative.
“Is the MLA a terrorist?” Jagan asked while questioning the manner of the arrest. He also asked why authorities did not issue a notice and seek the MLA’s appearance.
Jagan alleged that three cases were registered against Virupakshi within a short period. He claimed that one case named 30 people as accused, while another case included 38 accused.
He said the developments reflected a serious situation for democracy in the state. Jagan also alleged that police action was taking place at the direction of the political leadership.
The former chief minister said elected representatives should receive due legal process. He also questioned the use of a large police force during the arrest.
Jagan said such incidents would create concern among people about democratic institutions and the rule of law. However, the allegations made by Jagan represent his political position on the arrest.
The case against Virupakshi remains subject to the judicial process. The allegations made by the YSR Congress chief would require verification through official records and court proceedings. (Maxim News)
