Hyderabad, August 21: Cyber fraudsters posing as Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials allegedly duped a government engineer of Rs 10 lakh.
The complainant works as an Executive Engineer in the Roads and Buildings Department. He lives in Kompally.
The engineer received a WhatsApp call from an unknown number in July. The caller claimed to be an ACB official.
ACB Officer Impersonation Used To Threaten Engineer
The caller allegedly told the engineer that someone had filed a corruption complaint against him.
He then threatened to conduct surprise raids against the engineer.
The fraudster allegedly offered to stop the raids if the engineer paid money.
Fearing the alleged action, the engineer transferred Rs 10 lakh in several installments.
However, the caller later demanded more money. This raised the engineer’s suspicion.
He then approached the Cyberabad Cybercrime Police and lodged a complaint.
Police registered a case and began an investigation into the alleged cyber fraud.
