Harish Rao arrest | Hyderabad, August 27: Former Telangana minister and BRS Legislature Party deputy leader T Harish Rao was arrested during a protest at the Hanamkonda Collectorate on Thursday.
Harish Rao had arrived to support students of Government Polytechnic College, Warangal. He also expressed solidarity with TNGO leaders holding a protest at the Collectorate.
Police detained Harish Rao after he joined the protest. He expressed strong displeasure over the police action and later walked towards the Subedari police station.
BRS leaders and workers strongly opposed the arrest. They raised slogans against the police and the Congress government.
BRS leaders alleged that the government was restricting opposition leaders from raising public issues. They accused the government of using police forces to suppress peaceful protests.
Police deployed additional personnel around the Hanamkonda Collectorate following the developments. Security was tightened in the surrounding areas.
Harish Rao arrest | Supports Polytechnic Students
Government Polytechnic College students in Warangal have been protesting over their demands. They are seeking the withdrawal of GO 97.
TNGO leaders also organised a protest at the Collectorate over their demands. Harish Rao decided to visit the protest site and extend his support.
Police had earlier tried to prevent Harish Rao from travelling from Hyderabad. Officials reportedly cited the absence of permission for his visit.
However, Harish Rao reached the Hanamkonda Collectorate despite the restrictions. He joined the protest and spoke in support of the students.
His arrival increased tensions around the Collectorate. Police then detained him citing law and order concerns.
The police subsequently took Harish Rao towards the Subedari police station. His arrest triggered protests from BRS supporters at the site.
