Hyderabad, August 31: A man lay on the road at Gowliguda bus stand to protest potholes and poor road conditions.
The protester, identified as Feroz, said he wanted to highlight the problems faced by motorists and pedestrians. A video of the protest has also gone viral on social media.
Feroz said the road condition had worsened over several days. He also said potholes were causing serious inconvenience to commuters.
Two policemen reached the spot and tried to persuade him to move aside. They cited the need to keep traffic moving on the busy stretch.
The policemen reportedly assured Feroz that officials would repair the road by the following morning. However, he argued that the problem had continued for several days.
Hyderabad pothole worsen after recent rains
Several roads in southern Hyderabad have developed potholes after recent rains. As a result, commuters face difficulties on several important stretches.
The road near the Puranapul cremation ground is among the affected areas. Local residents said two wheeler riders face particular difficulty while using the stretch.

“The entire stretch is riddled with potholes. Commuters, particularly two-wheeler riders, are finding it difficult to negotiate the road,” said Shaker Ali, a local resident.
A similar problem has emerged on Jalpally road. A truck carrying a road roller reportedly overturned after one of its tyres landed in a large pothole.
“The potholes have become a serious hazard for motorists. There is a constant fear of accidents, especially at night,” said Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Sriramnagar Colony.
The complaints also extend to central parts of Hyderabad. Commuters at Khaja Mansion Junction and Masab Tank have reported damaged roads and potholes.
Residents have also raised concerns about the nature of road repairs. They alleged that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation often carries out patchwork repairs.
However, residents said potholes return even after light rainfall. Therefore, they are demanding permanent repairs instead of repeated temporary work.
The protest at Gowliguda has brought renewed attention to the condition of city roads. Residents in several areas continue to seek lasting solutions to pothole related problems.
