Hyderabad, Sept 1 (Maxim News): Telangana has received a major aviation boost as the Centre moves ahead with plans for a new airport in Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
Union Civil Aviation Minister K. Ram Mohan Naidu has directed officials to examine suitable sites for the proposed airport. A central technical team will visit the state on September 7 to inspect four to five locations.
This is a significant development for the Bhadradri region, which is home to the famous Bhadrachalam Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple.
The technical team will study the geographical and weather conditions at the proposed sites. It will also assess their suitability for airport construction.
If the team submits a favorable report, the Centre will take the next steps towards establishing the airport.
State Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao has been pursuing the proposal and recently met Ram Mohan Naidu. He informed the Union minister that two locations examined earlier were found unsuitable due to technical reasons.
Following that assessment, officials identified four to five alternative sites. The central team will now conduct a fresh field-level study.
Telangana Airport Plan Gets Major Push From Centre
The proposed airport could significantly improve air connectivity in Bhadradri Kothagudem. It could also make travel easier for pilgrims visiting Bhadrachalam.
Minister Tummala thanked Ram Mohan Naidu and the Centre for sending the technical team. He said the September 7 inspection would help determine the next course of action.
However, the final location has not yet been selected. The project will depend on the technical assessment and subsequent approvals.
The latest move nevertheless marks an important step towards a long-pending airport proposal for the region. (Maxim News)
