Hyderabad: Speculation is growing over a possible change in the Telangana Assembly Speaker ahead of the Assembly and Council sessions scheduled to begin on September 7.
Sources indicate that the Congress leadership has discussed the possibility of replacing Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar as part of ongoing consultations on the party’s political and Cabinet affairs.
Gaddam Prasad recently met Congress high command leaders in Delhi. His meeting has triggered speculation about a possible change in his role and a potential Cabinet berth. However, Telangana Legislature officials said his Delhi visit was linked to preparations for a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association conference.
The Congress leadership is also discussing the political future of Konda Surekha, G. Chinna Reddy and Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy. AICC-level consultations are expected to provide greater clarity on these issues.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud, Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and other senior Congress leaders are involved in the ongoing discussions.
Speaker Change Yet to Be Officially Confirmed
The latest information suggests that a change in the Speaker’s post may have been finalised internally, while decisions concerning Konda Surekha, Chinna Reddy and Rajagopal Reddy are still under discussion.
The Telangana Assembly and Legislative Council are scheduled to begin their sessions on September 7 at 10 am, according to an official Assembly circular.
The Telangana government has not yet officially announced a new Speaker. The State government website continues to list Gaddam Prasad Kumar as the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly.
A formal announcement is therefore expected before the Assembly session begins, if the Congress leadership proceeds with the proposed change.
