Hyderabad: Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to bring major internal upgrades rather than a dramatic redesign.
The new Pro models are tipped to feature an A20 Pro chip built on TSMC’s 2nm process, improved cameras, larger batteries and a potentially smaller Dynamic Island.
Apple has officially scheduled its next iPhone launch event for September 9, 2026, where the iPhone 18 Pro lineup is expected to be unveiled.
The standard iPhone 18 is reportedly expected to follow a different release schedule, potentially arriving in spring 2027.
iPhone 18 Pro Could Bring Bigger Batteries and 2nm Chip
One of the most interesting reported changes could be the battery capacity. Leaks suggest that the US and Chinese versions may have different battery sizes because Chinese models are expected to retain a physical SIM slot.
The iPhone 18 Pro is tipped to feature a 4,288mAh battery in the US and a 4,056mAh unit in China. The Pro Max could reportedly carry 5,567mAh in the US and 5,391mAh in China.
The biggest performance upgrade could come from the A20 Pro processor. Reports suggest Apple could use TSMC’s 2nm manufacturing technology, potentially improving performance and power efficiency.
The iPhone 18 Pro models are expected to retain 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays for the Pro and Pro Max respectively.
Camera Upgrades Could Be Significant
Apple is reportedly testing a variable-aperture main camera for the iPhone 18 Pro series. Such a system could give users greater control over light entering the sensor and improve depth-of-field effects.
Some reports suggest the feature could be exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, although this remains unconfirmed.
The phones are also expected to retain a triple-camera setup, with further improvements to image processing and telephoto performance.
Smaller Dynamic Island Possible
The front design may receive a subtle but noticeable change.
Several reports suggest Apple could reduce the size of the Dynamic Island, although leaks disagree on whether the change will arrive with the iPhone 18 Pro or be delayed to a future generation.
The overall design is otherwise expected to remain familiar, with Apple focusing more heavily on internal hardware improvements.
Dark Cherry Could Be the New iPhone 18 Pro Color
Apple is also reportedly testing new colours for its premium lineup.
Dark Cherry has emerged as one of the most talked-about options and could become the signature colour for the 2026 Pro models. Other reported options include Light Blue, Dark Gray and Silver.
However, Apple has not confirmed the final colour lineup.
iPhone 18 Pro Price Could Rise
Pricing remains uncertain, but reports suggest Apple could increase the cost of the Pro models because of higher component and manufacturing costs.
Some estimates point to a significant increase, while other reports suggest Apple could limit the rise to around $100 for the entry-level Pro model.
In India, current unofficial estimates put the iPhone 18 Pro around ₹1.4 lakh, but Apple has not announced official Indian pricing.
The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are therefore shaping up as an evolution rather than a complete redesign. If the current leaks prove accurate, Apple’s 2026 flagship phones could combine a 2nm A20 Pro chip, larger batteries, improved cameras, new colours and a smaller Dynamic Island while retaining the familiar Pro-series design.
