Hyderabad, Sept. 7 (Maxim News) : Tension gripped Hyderabad on the opening day of the Telangana Assembly session as opposition groups staged protests near the legislature.
The BJP and unemployed JAC leaders and activists responded to a call for a Chalo Assembly protest. They accused the Congress government of failing to fulfil its election promises.
Large numbers of protesters moved towards the Assembly to press their demands. They raised slogans against the state government in areas surrounding the legislature.
Police deployed large contingents around the Assembly as a precaution. Officers stopped protesters from reaching restricted areas near the legislature.
The police action led to heated exchanges and pushing between officers and protesters. Authorities took the steps to prevent any untoward incidents around the Assembly.
The protests also affected traffic on several major roads in Hyderabad. The simultaneous demonstrations created congestion around the Assembly and nearby routes.
Telangana Assembly Protests: BRS legislators mock Assembly
Meanwhile, BRS MLAs and other party representatives arrived wearing black clothes.
They said the move highlighted their opposition to the government’s policies.
Police stopped the BRS legislators from entering the Assembly premises. BRS leaders objected strongly to the police action.
The BRS leaders then decided to hold a mock Assembly at Telangana Bhavan. They planned the programme to protest against being prevented from entering the legislature.
The developments created a charged atmosphere around the Assembly on the first day of the session. Several groups sought to use the occasion to highlight their demands and opposition to the government.
The BJP and unemployed groups focused on alleged failures in implementing election commitments. The BRS, meanwhile, used black attire and the proposed mock Assembly to register its protest.
Police maintained a heavy presence around the legislature and key roads. The security measures aimed to prevent protesters from entering areas restricted during the Assembly session.
The protests also placed additional pressure on traffic management in central Hyderabad. Police efforts to control the gatherings resulted in clashes and pushing at some points.
The opening day therefore combined legislative proceedings with street protests. The competing demonstrations reflected the political tensions surrounding the ongoing Assembly session.
