Hyderabad, Sept. 7 (Maxim News) : Tension gripped the Telangana Assembly on Monday after police stopped BRS MLAs from entering the premises during a protest.
The BRS legislators wore black T-shirts and carried placards as they reached the Assembly gate. Police stopped them at the entrance.
The confrontation soon turned tense as officers prevented the legislators from proceeding inside.
Police later detained the BRS leaders and shifted them to Telangana Bhavan.
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar arrived at the Assembly after the confrontation intensified.
He sought details from police personnel about the incident and the actions taken at the gate.
BRS leaders alleged that police pulled the saree of former minister and BRS MLA Sunitha Lakshma Reddy during the confrontation.
They raised slogans against the police over the alleged incident.
Sajjanar sought details from police officials regarding the allegation involving Sunitha Lakshma Reddy. Officers were asked to explain what happened during the confrontation.
The Commissioner’s arrival came as tension remained high at the Assembly gate.
Police continued efforts to control the situation and manage movement around the premises.
Police cite objectionable words on BRS protest shirts
Khairatabad Zone DCP Shilpavalli later responded to the controversy. She said wearing black T shirts inside the Assembly was not itself an offence.
However, she said some shirts carried objectionable words. Police therefore stopped the BRS legislators from entering the Assembly, according to her explanation.
Shilpavalli denied that police behaved improperly with the BRS leaders. She said officers did not treat anyone in an indecent manner.
The DCP said police would examine video footage if the BRS allegation involved any misconduct. She also said authorities would review the allegations made by the BRS.
According to Shilpavalli, police acted based on directions from the Telangana Assembly Speaker. She said officers followed the instructions issued by the Speaker while managing the situation.
The incident occurred amid heightened political activity around the ongoing Assembly session.
Opposition parties have been using protests and demonstrations to raise issues against the Congress government.
