Hyderabad, Sept. 16: Ganesh idol immersions began at Hussain Sagar on Wednesday as devotees marked the third day of Vinayaka Chaturthi festivities.
Only a small number of idols were brought for immersion during the day.
No pandal idols were taken out for immersion. However, several families brought idols from their homes.
Families traditionally immerse Ganesh idols on the third, fifth, seventh or 11th day.
This year, the extended festival calendar has moved the final major immersion to the 12th day.
Hussain Sagar Ganesh Immersions See Early Devotee Rush
The Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samithi has announced September 25 as the date for centralised idol immersion in Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, families gathered along the Hussain Sagar banks during the early hours.
Devotees immersed smaller idols at several locations around Tank Bund.
Popular stretches, including NTR Gardens, Necklace Road, People’s Plaza and the IMAX Theatre Lane, saw activity from morning.
Along with GHMC sanitation teams, private workers were deployed around Tank Bund.
They worked to maintain cleanliness and assist devotees during the immersion process.
The number of immersions is expected to increase as the festival progresses towards Ananta Chaturdashi.
