Pakistan mosque blast | Internet, Hyderabad, Sept 18: A suicide bombing during Friday prayers at a mosque in Kohat district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province killed at least 16 people and injured more than 50 on Friday.
The blast struck near Old Police Lines in Kohat as worshippers were offering Juma Namaz. Five of the dead are policemen.
The explosion damaged the mosque building as well as nearby buildings and shops. Rescue 1122 personnel and police rushed to the scene and launched rescue operations. The injured were taken to hospitals in the area for treatment.

The death toll was initially reported at eight but rose to 16 as rescue teams pulled victims from the rubble. Videos circulating on social media showed rescue workers removing survivors and bodies from the damaged structure. The extent of structural damage to the mosque and surrounding buildings is still being assessed.
No terrorist organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack at the time of this report. Pakistani security forces have cordoned off the area and an investigation is underway.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed several targeted attacks on places of worship and security personnel in recent years, with the province bordering Afghanistan remaining a high-security concern.
