AP Liquor Scam: Minister Parthasarathy Targets Jagan

Amravathi / Hyderabad, Sept. 20 (Maxim News): Andhra Pradesh Information and Public Relations Minister K. Parthasarathi has launched a sharp attack on the previous YSR Congress Party government over its liquor policy, alleging large-scale irregularities during the YSRCP regime.

Parthasarathi alleged that the YSRCP came to power promising prohibition but later changed the liquor system to suit its interests. He also questioned the decision to prevent digital payments at liquor outlets during the previous government.

The minister alleged that former Chief Minister and YSRCP president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was primarily responsible for the alleged liquor scam. He also claimed that poor-quality liquor brands introduced during the YSRCP government caused severe hardship to families across the state.

He alleged that around 30,000 women lost their husbands because of the liquor policy. These figures and claims were made by the minister and have not been independently established as causal findings.

Minister Questions Jagan Over Liquor Scam Probe

Parthasarathi also questioned why Jagan had not responded to the allegations surrounding the liquor case, which investigators have put at several thousand crore rupees.

The Andhra Pradesh CID’s Special Investigation Team has been probing alleged irregularities in the state’s liquor policy between 2019 and 2024. A 2025 chargesheet alleged a network of kickbacks linked to liquor manufacturers and named Jagan as an alleged recipient, although he was not named as an accused in that chargesheet.

The Enforcement Directorate subsequently opened a money-laundering investigation based on the alleged liquor-policy irregularities. The YSRCP has rejected the allegations and described the investigation as politically motivated.

Parthasarathi also referred to Satyaprasad, who has reportedly turned approver in the case. He alleged that YSRCP leaders were attempting to discredit Satyaprasad by questioning his mental condition.

The minister further criticised the YSRCP over its allegations concerning recruitment through the state’s mega DSC. He said the coalition government was filling 16,500 teacher posts through the recruitment process and accused the opposition party and its affiliated media of making baseless allegations despite official clarifications.

Parthasarathi said the government’s recruitment process was being conducted according to the applicable procedures and criticised what he described as repeated attempts to raise unfounded allegations against the government.

The liquor case remains under investigation, with competing claims from the ruling coalition and the YSRCP. Former minister Perni Venkataramaiah recently alleged that the SIT was using the case to target Jagan, while questioning the evidence produced so far. (Maxim News)
