Hyderabad, Sept. 23: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has urged Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to name the proposed Mamnoor Airport in Warangal after freedom fighter Moulvi Syed Alauddin.
Owaisi made the request in a letter to the Chief Minister dated September 22, 2026. The proposal follows the Telangana government’s invitation for public suggestions on naming the airport.
Owaisi proposed the name “Moulvi Syed Alauddin Airport” in honour of the freedom fighter from the erstwhile Warangal district.

In his letter, Owaisi highlighted the historical significance of Mamnoor Airport. He said the airport was built in the 1930s during the Nizam’s rule.
He said the airport was developed to support regional connectivity and industries, including the paper industry and Azam Jahi Mills in Warangal.
Owaisi also highlighted Syed Alauddin’s role in the 1857 uprising. According to his letter, Alauddin and Turrebaz Khan led resistance against the British Residency in Hyderabad on July 17, 1857.

Alauddin was later captured and imprisoned in the Cellular Jail, Owaisi said.
The AIMIM chief said naming the airport after Alauddin would honour his contribution to the freedom struggle and help preserve his legacy.
The proposed Mamnoor Airport is being revived to strengthen air connectivity to the Warangal region. The Telangana government has invited suggestions on a suitable name for the facility.
Owaisi urged the Chief Minister to consider naming the airport “Moulvi Syed Alauddin Airport, Warangal.”
