Mushtaq Khan | Mumbai, Sept. 24: Veteran Bollywood actor Mushtaq Khan, known for his memorable supporting and comic roles in films such as Welcome, Hera Pheri and the Gadar franchise, died on Thursday at the age of 56 after battling cancer.
Khan passed away at Nanavati Hospital in Mumbai, where he had been undergoing treatment. His business partner confirmed that he died around 7 pm on Thursday after his cancer reportedly relapsed recently.
Reports about the type of cancer have differed, with some outlets describing it as lung cancer and others reporting liver cancer. A formal statement from his family was awaited.
Memorable Bollywood Career Of Mushtaq Khan
Khan began his film career in the 1980s and went on to appear in several popular Hindi films over a career spanning more than three decades. His filmography included Aashiqui, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Sadak, Hera Pheri, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Welcome, Rowdy Rathore, Gadar 2, Badhaai Do and Stree 2.
He was particularly remembered for his supporting roles and comic timing. His appearance as Gul Khan in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and its sequel was among his notable performances.
Khan also worked in television and theatre. His television credits included Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi and Adaalat.
His role in Welcome (2007), alongside Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, remains one of his most widely remembered performances, particularly for his comic dialogue involving his artificial leg and hockey career.
The actor’s death has prompted tributes from members of the film industry, with colleagues and fans remembering his contribution to Hindi cinema.
