Hyderabad, Sept 26 (Maxim News): Kaleshwaram project motors were operated on Saturday to lift Godavari water into the Annapurna and Ranganayaka Sagar reservoirs, a day after BRS leader T Harish Rao urged the Telangana government to utilise the river’s flood flows.
Around 6,400 cusecs of Godavari water was being lifted into Annapurna reservoir through two pumps at the Annapurna pump house.
The reservoir has a total storage capacity of 3.5 TMCft, while its storage was reported at around 1.6 TMCft.
Similarly, nearly 3,300 cusecs was being lifted into Ranganayaka Sagar through one pump at the Ranganayaka Sagar pump house.
Harish Rao Had Urged Government to Operate Kaleshwaram Motors
The pumping operations came a day after former Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao wrote to Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, urging the government to operate available Kaleshwaram pumps and utilise the ongoing Godavari flood flows.
Harish Rao alleged that several reservoirs under the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme remained depleted despite heavy inflows in the Godavari. He called for the pumping stations to operate continuously to support farmers facing water shortages.
The BRS leader also urged the government to set aside political considerations and prioritise farmers’ interests. His remarks were part of a broader criticism of the Congress government’s water management.
The latest pumping operations will add water to the two reservoirs as the State continues to receive significant flows in the Godavari. The government and irrigation authorities are expected to monitor reservoir levels and pumping operations in the coming days.
