Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 27: Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill scored centuries as India defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the first ODI in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. The victory gave India a 1-0 lead in the series.
Kohli remained unbeaten on 139 off 88 balls, hitting 10 fours and nine sixes. He also crossed the 15,000-run mark in ODI cricket during his 55th century.
Kohli and Gill Lead India’s Successful Chase
Meanwhile, captain Shubman Gill scored 110 off 108 deliveries, including 13 fours and a six. The pair added 151 runs for the second wicket to put India in control of the chase.
Earlier, Gill and Rohit Sharma shared a 74-run opening partnership. Rohit contributed 32 runs before his dismissal.
West Indies posted 295 for seven in their allotted 50 overs. Justin Greaves top-scored with 101, while John Campbell added 62. Amir Jangoo remained unbeaten on 58.
Kuldeep Yadav led India’s bowling attack, taking four wickets for 40 runs. India then reached 300 for two in 41.4 overs to seal the victory.
