The minister also launched an egg shop for street vendors being operated under the Indira Mahila Shakti initiative.
He distributed cheques worth ₹1.20 crore towards interest-free loans to women’s self-help groups and handed over school uniforms to students.
Later, Prabhakar laid the foundation stone for SWD drains and CC road works at Ward No. 163 in Bagh Lingampally. The works have an estimated cost of ₹1.5 crore.
Rajya Sabha member Anil Kumar Yadav, GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan, other public representatives and officials attended the programme.
Ponnam Prabhakar Highlights Women’s Economic Empowerment
Prabhakar said the Telangana government was implementing Indira Mahila Shakti initiatives in line with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s vision of economically empowering women.
He said Indiramma canteens were being handed over to women’s self-help groups to create sustainable livelihood opportunities.
The government aims to provide quality meals to poor and working people in Hyderabad at ₹5, he said.
The minister said the government was developing permanent canteen structures with necessary infrastructure and facilities.
He described the opening of the Bagh Lingampally canteen as a step towards women’s economic self-reliance.
Prabhakar said the government had increased the interest-free loan limit for women’s groups from ₹5 lakh to ₹10 lakh.
He added that the government had been paying the interest on such loans for the past three years.
He said women’s groups were also being given opportunities to operate canteens, solar power projects and other livelihood activities.
In rural areas, the government has already enabled women to become owners of 600 RTC buses, he said.
The minister also asked GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan to prepare proposals to extend similar bus ownership opportunities to eligible women’s groups in Hyderabad.
He said groups with full repayment capacity should be considered.
Prabhakar further said the government was providing sewing machines and training to BC and minority women. He urged eligible women to apply by September 30.
He said women should achieve financial independence and have greater participation in household economic decisions.
According to Prabhakar, strengthening women’s economic position would also contribute to stronger families and broader social development.
The government was implementing several initiatives, including interest-free loans, livelihood opportunities, training, sewing machines, canteens and buses, to strengthen women’s self-help groups, he said. (Maxim News)
