Journalists Accreditation Renewal | Hyderabad, Sept. 29 (Maxim News): The Telangana High Court has directed the state authorities to place on record proof of the renewal of working journalists’ accreditation cards.
A Division Bench comprising Justice P. Sam Koshy and Justice Narsing Rao Nandikonda heard a contempt petition filed by the Telangana Urdu Working Journalists Federation (TUWJF). The matter came up before Court No. 2 of the Telangana High Court.
TUWJF General Secretary Syed Ghouse Mohiuddin represented the federation in the proceedings. Advocate Barkat Ali Khan appeared for the petitioner, while Additional Advocate General Rahul Reddy represented the respondents.
The state’s counsel told the court that officials had already renewed the journalists’ accreditation cards and had complied with the court’s earlier order.
However, the petitioner’s counsel disputed the submission. Khan told the bench that the accreditation cards had not actually been renewed and that the authorities had only issued a circular to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) concerning journalists’ bus passes.

Khan argued that treating the bus pass circular as compliance with the court’s direction could give an incorrect impression about the status of accreditation renewal.
He further submitted that the Telangana Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department had not received any circular concerning accreditation renewal after February 28, 2026.
The petitioner’s counsel maintained that the court’s earlier direction specifically concerned the renewal of journalists’ accreditation cards, rather than bus passes alone. He therefore argued that the respondents had not complied with the order issued on April 30, 2026.
After hearing both sides, the Division Bench directed the respondents to file a memo placing their claim on record. The respondents have been asked to confirm their contention that the accreditation cards were renewed.
The court posted the matter for further hearing on November 5, 2026.
The accreditation issue has been before the Telangana High Court amid challenges concerning changes to the rules governing journalists’ accreditation. Earlier proceedings had also dealt with the validity of existing accreditation cards and related government orders.
