Hyderabad, Oct. 5: A birthday celebration turned tragic at Hyderabad’s Tank Bund in the early hours of Sunday, October 4, when a lorry hit a family crossing the road. The accident killed a six-year-old girl and her 41-year-old relative.
Police identified the deceased as Sarakshi and Viswanath, also known as Vishwanth. Both belonged to Jonnabanda in Old Alwal.
According to police, the family had travelled to Hyderabad to celebrate Sarakshi’s sixth birthday. They watched a movie at a theatre in Kukatpally before heading to Tank Bund to cut a birthday cake near Hussainsagar.
The family parked their car near the Maqdoom Mohiuddin statue and began crossing the road towards the lake. A lorry travelling from the Secunderabad side hit Sarakshi and Viswanath.
Sarakshi suffered severe injuries and died at the scene. Viswanath sustained critical injuries and was shifted to Gandhi Hospital, where he later died while undergoing treatment.

Domalguda police registered a case following the accident and launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Police are examining the incident and the circumstances in which the lorry struck the two victims. The deaths have left the family grieving what was meant to be a birthday celebration.
The accident has also drawn attention to pedestrian safety on the busy Tank Bund stretch, particularly for families crossing the road near Hussainsagar.
