Hyderabad, Oct. 8: Telangana Food Safety officials inspected 12 pheni manufacturing units in Hyderabad ahead of the festive season and found several hygiene violations.
The TG SAFE Food Wing and Enforcement teams conducted surprise inspections on Thursday following complaints about food safety violations.
The inspections covered units in Gowlipura, Malakpet, Jiyaguda and Badangpet.
Officials found workers preparing pheni without wearing head caps and gloves. Some workers were also found handling food in dirty clothes and while sweating heavily.
The teams found raw materials and prepared pheni placed directly on the floor.
Officials said such practices raised concerns about hygiene and food safety standards.
Some units also failed to display their Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licences and other mandatory licences.
Reports also indicated that some establishments were operating without the required FSSAI licence.
TG SAFE Steps Up Checks Ahead of Festivals
The inspections come ahead of a series of major festivals, including Bathukamma, Dasara and Diwali.
Officials are expected to take further action against the units based on the violations recorded during the inspections.

The complete details of the enforcement action are expected to be released separately.
Food safety officials have been conducting intensified inspections across Hyderabad as part of efforts to prevent unsafe food practices during the festive season.
Earlier inspections by TG SAFE have also resulted in licence suspensions and closure orders against establishments found violating food safety and hygiene requirements.
The latest inspections highlight the importance of maintaining clean preparation areas, proper food handling practices and valid food safety licences at manufacturing units.
