Hyderabad: Actor turned politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has taken the lead over the AIADMK in Dharapuram and is also ahead in Madurantakam, according to the election trends provided.
Vote counting is underway for the bypolls in the two Tamil Nadu Assembly constituencies. Both Dharapuram and Madurantakam are reserved for Scheduled Caste candidates.
Polling took place on October 6 alongside bypolls in two West Bengal constituencies and one Puducherry seat.
Tamil Nadu Bypolls See High Voter Turnout
Election authorities reported a voter turnout of 85.99% in Madurantakam and 80.31% in Dharapuram by 6 pm on polling day.
Puducherry’s Thattanchavady constituency recorded a turnout of 80.81%. Polling began at 7 am and ended at 6 pm.
Officials reported no major untoward incidents. They also addressed minor technical issues involving EVM and VVPAT equipment at some polling stations.
Vijay’s First Major Electoral Test
The bypolls are politically significant for Vijay’s TVK government and the opposition parties in Tamil Nadu. The results could offer an indication of the ruling party’s support after its victory in the Assembly election earlier this year.
The contests are also important for the DMK and AIADMK as they assess their political standing.
In Puducherry, the Thattanchavady bypoll is viewed as a test for Chief Minister N. Rangasamy’s NDA government. His resignation from the constituency necessitated the election.
Note: The supplied copy does not include vote counts or confirmed results. The leads should be treated as provisional until official figures are available.
