Narayana | Hyderabad, Oct 10: CPI national leader K Narayana has accused the Union government of imposing a complete lockdown on Delhi. In a video posted on social media, he said he even wondered whether the capital had been handed over to Pakistan.

Narayana alleged that the Centre deployed 50,000 to 75,000 police and other security personnel and brought normal life to a standstill. He called it unjust to field such large forces against people who came to protest peacefully.

He mocked the Centre as caught between a pit in front and a well behind. If it tries to cover up its mistakes, he warned, it will face serious consequences. He said legal experts and the Supreme Court are also responding to the situation, and the government should rethink its stand.

Narayana also dismissed the coverage by some media organisations as nothing but a creation of the BJP’s media. He said detention and repression cannot stop people’s movements and demanded that the Centre correct its mistakes.

Separately, he expressed happiness that the AITUC-affiliated Employees Union won the Telangana RTC workers’ union recognition elections. He congratulated all the workers who worked for the victory.

Narayana criticised the Congress, saying such elections should be held above politics. He alleged that the party, out of arrogance of power, called on workers to “defeat the Communists”.

In his view, Congress turned the election into a political contest between itself and the Communists, and it bears full responsibility.

He also thanked the allied unions that stood united with the Employees Union. He hoped this unity would continue and strengthen future struggles to protect workers’ rights.
