Harish Rao On El Niño And Telangana Farmers

Hyderabad, Oct 12 (Maxim News) : Former Telangana minister and BRS MLA Harish Rao has criticised the Revanth Reddy government over its handling of the El Niño situation.

Alleging that the administration was neglecting farmers despite concerns about drought conditions in the state.

Rao accused the government of repeatedly changing the schedule of a proposed video conference intended to educate farmers about El Niño and its possible impact on agriculture.

Addressing a scribe’s meeting on Monday, he said that the state government issued a circular on Sunday asking farmers to gather at Rythu Vedikas to participate in a video conference with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and other ministers.

The meeting was intended to create awareness about El Niño conditions, he said. Legislators also received instructions from district agriculture officials to attend the programme.

Harish Rao alleged that officials sent a cancellation message at 9:52 am. He said another message later asked farmers and legislators to attend a video conference at 11:15 am.

Subsequently, they were reportedly informed that the Chief Minister would not attend and that the Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister would participate instead at 1 pm.

The former minister questioned the repeated changes, arguing that farmers were being inconvenienced at a time when they needed timely guidance on weather-related risks and agricultural planning.

Harish Rao Questions Government’s Commitment to Farmers

Harish Rao described the changes to the meeting schedule as irresponsible, comparing the handling of the programme to “children playing games.”

He questioned the government’s seriousness in addressing El Niño, which can influence rainfall patterns and increase agricultural risks.

He also alleged that while farmers were facing difficulties, the Chief Minister was travelling to Goa and ministers were visiting Delhi.

Using these alleged travel plans to criticise the administration, Harish Rao asked whether the government was genuinely committed to preparing farmers for the challenges posed by El Niño.

The BRS leader said farmers needed clear communication and timely guidance from the government, particularly when weather conditions could affect crop planning and agricultural activities.

He argued that repeatedly changing the arrangements for an awareness programme created confusion among farmers and public representatives.

The remarks reflect the opposition’s criticism of the state government’s response to potential weather-related agricultural challenges.

However, the allegations regarding the meeting arrangements and the travel plans of the Chief Minister and ministers are based on Harish Rao’s statements.

The supplied information does not include a response from the state government. (Maxim News)
