New Delhi, Oct. 14: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear petitions challenging the Election Commission’s Form 6 requirements for restoring names deleted from Delhi’s electoral rolls. The matter will be heard alongside other petitions on October 28.
The petition challenges the process under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. During the hearing, concerns were raised over a requirement for deleted voters to declare that they were registering as voters for the first time.
Supreme Court Reviews Form 6 Voter Registration Concerns
Senior advocate Prashant Bhushan argued that the requirement could create difficulties for people who were already registered voters. He also highlighted that the deadline for filing objections to deleted names was October 30.
Bhushan warned that voters could face criminal action, including imprisonment, if authorities found that they had submitted false information. Representing the petitioners, he urged the court to develop an alternative mechanism to restore the names of affected voters.

Chief Justice Surya Kant assured the petitioners that appropriate orders would address their concerns. He advised the lawyer to bring the matter before the bench at the next hearing.
