Asaduddin Owaisi SIR petition | New Delhi / Hyderabad, Oct 14: AIMIM president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has approached the Supreme Court challenging the manner in which the Election Commission of India is conducting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

The Chief Justice said he would examine the request and consider listing the petition with the connected cases.
Asaduddin Owaisi Joins Opposition Challenge to SIR
Owaisi has joined several opposition leaders who have challenged the SIR exercise and raised concerns over voter deletions. Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge are among those who have also approached the apex court over the issue.
The petitions challenge aspects of the electoral roll revision process and seek judicial scrutiny of the procedures followed by the Election Commission.
The legal challenge comes amid wider political criticism of the SIR exercise. Opposition parties have raised concerns about the possible exclusion of eligible voters, while the Election Commission maintains that the revision aims to improve the accuracy of electoral rolls.
The Supreme Court’s decision to list Owaisi’s petition alongside related matters remains subject to the court’s listing process. No ruling on the merits of his petition was announced at the time of mentioning.
More details are awaited.
