Hyderabad, Oct 17 (Maxim News): Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has rejected allegations that Iran is pursuing nuclear weapons, calling claims about the country’s nuclear ambitions false.
Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze in Yerevan, Armenia, on Friday. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity.
The Iranian president said his country was not seeking to develop nuclear weapons. He described reports suggesting otherwise as propaganda against Tehran.
Pezeshkian also referred to the position of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who had opposed the development of nuclear weapons.
Pezeshkian Says Iran Remains Ready for Dialogue
Pezeshkian said Iran had always been prepared for negotiations. However, he stressed that Tehran would not surrender to pressure or coercive measures.
He criticised US sanctions against Iran, describing them as unjustifiable and inhumane. He also condemned recent US and Israeli attacks on Iran, calling them unjust and inhumane, according to Iranian statements.
The Iranian president urged Washington to pursue rational discussions instead of relying on pressure. He warned that continuing the current approach could worsen tensions and create wider international problems.
During his meeting with Kobakhidze, Pezeshkian also called for stronger economic, cultural and tourism ties between Iran and Georgia. He proposed practical measures and a clear timetable to advance bilateral cooperation.
Kobakhidze’s office said the leaders discussed bilateral relations and regional security. It highlighted dialogue and diplomacy as important to de-escalation and lasting peace.
Pezeshkian also met Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during his visit to Yerevan. He reiterated his criticism of US sanctions and called for negotiations to address disputes.
Iran’s denial represents its stated position on its nuclear programme. The statement does not, by itself, resolve international concerns about the programme.
