Mozamjahi Market Clock Tower Has Historic Significance

Mozamjahi Market was built between 1933 and 1935 during the reign of the seventh Nizam, Mir Osman Ali Khan. The market was named after Prince Moazzam Jah, the Nizam’s second son and president of the City Improvement Board.

The market was part of the board’s urban renewal projects. It was intended to provide commercial space between Hyderabad Railway Station and the British Residency.

Over the years, the structure deteriorated due to water seepage, rusted beams and encroachments. The GHMC and the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Department (MAUD) later restored the market.

The market reopened to the public on August 15, 2020. The clock tower’s reported shutdown has now raised concerns about its maintenance.
