Hyderabad, Oct. 30: Israel’s final election results have reportedly produced a hung parliament, with no party or coalition securing the 61 seats required to form a government. The ruling coalition led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu won 53 seats, while the opposition coalition secured 48 seats.
Netanyahu’s Likud party emerged as the single largest party with 27 seats. Arab parties secured a combined 19 seats, marking an unprecedented electoral performance, according to the reported results.
Israel Election Results Leave Government Formation Uncertain
The counting process, including votes cast through double-envelope ballots, concluded on Wednesday and Thursday. These ballots included votes from military personnel, reservists, diplomats, hospital patients, medical staff and prisoners.
Analysts had expected the additional ballots to improve the ruling coalition’s position. However, the final count did not change the overall political arithmetic.
With neither major bloc reaching the 61-seat majority mark in the 120-member parliament, government formation remains uncertain.
Both the ruling right-wing coalition and the opposition bloc have reportedly been reluctant to form an alliance with the Arab parties, despite their combined 19 seats. Political analysts have suggested that an agreement between the two major blocs could emerge as one possible outcome.
Netanyahu Alleges Foreign Interference
Meanwhile, Netanyahu has accused foreign countries of interfering in the Israeli elections. He described the alleged interference as a major crisis and demanded an investigation by the police and the Internal Security Department.
He also criticised Arab parties, alleging electoral irregularities and accusing them of attempting to change Israel’s political and social character. Netanyahu ruled out joining hands with Arab parties to form the next government.
The election outcome has left Israel facing political uncertainty, with negotiations and possible alliances expected to determine the next government.
