Hyderabad: Hyderabad City Police has expanded women’s participation in frontline policing through a new motorcycle patrolling initiative.
The Khairatabad zone has trained one woman police constable from each police station in motorcycle riding. They have now been deployed for regular field patrolling.
DCP Khairatabad K Shilpa Valli said the initiative aims to increase women personnel’s participation in operational policing. It seeks to move beyond reception, writing and other station-based duties.
“Women police personnel should be equally visible and actively involved in frontline policing,” she said.

Women Constables to Strengthen Community Policing
The initiative is expected to improve the utilisation of available police resources. It will also expand operational responsibilities for women constables and provide greater flexibility in field deployment.
Their presence on city streets could make policing more accessible to women. This may encourage those who feel more comfortable approaching women police personnel.
Shilpa Valli said the initiative would help build public confidence. It would also strengthen police-community engagement.
Greater visibility of women personnel in patrol teams could encourage more women to approach police directly. They can seek assistance more comfortably, she added.
The DCP described the initiative as a small operational change with a larger institutional purpose. The focus is on increasing women’s presence in patrol teams and improving public access to policing.
