Hyderabad SIR | Hyderabad, Oct. 31: Hyderabad’s electorate could shrink by nearly 41 per cent during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana, with around 19.4 lakh voters categorised under the Absent, Shifted, Death and Double (ASDD) categories. The city’s voter count could fall from 47.36 lakh to a little over 28 lakh, according to figures released by the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer’s office.
The projected reduction is comparable to Bengaluru, where the electorate declined by 43 per cent, from 1,03,88,363 to 59,08,151, during its revision exercise.
Hyderabad’s 15 Assembly constituencies had 47,36,669 registered electors before the SIR. Of these, 27,95,225 submitted enumeration forms, while 19,41,444 were categorised under ASDD.
Hyderabad SIR Voter Revision Shows 41% Possible Reduction
As of Thursday, 12,53,876 SIR notices had been generated for voters whose enumeration forms contained discrepancies. Of these, 12,49,026 notices had been delivered, while 4,850 were pending delivery.
Hearings had been completed for 12,07,629 electors. However, 45,424 first hearings and 823 rescheduled hearings had lapsed.

Following the hearings, 11,42,490 voters had been marked for inclusion in the final electoral rolls. This included 6,28,722 electors with logical discrepancies and 5,13,768 voters who could not be mapped to the 2002 SIR rolls.

Another 15,41,296 electors whose enumeration forms had no discrepancies had already been cleared for inclusion. This takes the total number of voters marked for inclusion to 26,83,786.
Hyderabad also recorded 39,101 applications for new voter registration, of which 33,652 had been approved.
The final electorate could exceed the current figure after new registrations and the completion of the revision process. However, the number may change further depending on the outcome of hearings and verification.
Hyderabad SIR Voter Revision | Officials Expect Higher Voter Turnout
Telangana Chief Electoral Officer’s office officials attributed the low voter turnout in successive elections across Hyderabad’s 15 Assembly constituencies partly to entries under the ASDD categories.
“As the ASDD voters are being removed from the rolls, we will get clean rolls. We can expect around 90 per cent turnout in the next elections in Hyderabad,” officials said.

Electors who fail to attend the required hearings could face exclusion from the final rolls, according to the report.
Rangareddy Electorate May Decline by 35%
Rangareddy district, which has the second-highest electorate in Telangana, is also expected to see a reduction of at least 35 per cent.
Before the SIR, the district had 36,99,743 voters. Of these, 24,12,652 submitted enumeration forms, while 12,87,091 were categorised under ASDD.
A total of 12,33,491 SIR notices were generated and served in the district. Hearings had been completed for 12,33,418 electors.
Following the verification process, 11,89,543 names had been cleared for inclusion in the final electoral rolls, while 13,338 voters had been found ineligible.
The final figures for Hyderabad and Rangareddy will depend on the completion of the SIR process and the decisions taken after verification and hearings.
