Hyderabad Water Crisis | Hyderabad, Nov. 6 (Maxim News): Water tanker bookings in Hyderabad have reached an unprecedented level, even before the onset of summer.
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) recorded 2.2 lakh bookings in October.

This is the first time in the Water Board’s history that bookings have crossed this level during October. In comparison, the Board received only 87,000 bookings during October last year.
The surge comes amid deficient rainfall and declining groundwater levels. The El Niño conditions have contributed to the rainfall deficit this year.
Consequently, groundwater levels have failed to recover. They are also declining further due to rising temperatures and increasing demand.
Hyderabad Water Crisis | IT Corridor Faces Summer Like Tanker Demand
Daily tanker bookings have crossed 7,000 since October. Areas across Hyderabad’s IT corridor are experiencing particularly high demand.

Madhapur, Gachibowli and TNGOs Colony are witnessing summer-like conditions. Each filling station in these areas is handling around 250 to 300 tankers daily.
Normally, tanker demand remains low during the monsoon. Daily bookings usually range between 1,500 and 2,000 during this period.
However, the situation has changed significantly this year. Falling groundwater levels have affected borewells in several residential areas.
Some borewells have stopped functioning completely. Others are supplying water intermittently.
As a result, households and apartment complexes are struggling to meet their daily water requirements. Many residents are now depending on water tankers to meet their needs.
The unusually high demand during October has raised concerns about Hyderabad’s water availability ahead of the summer season.
