The Education Department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has said that the controversial preacher Zakir Naik’s Islamic International School (IIS) in south Mumbai was operating without authorisation.
Education inspector BB Chavan for south Mumbai region, in a letter issued here yesterday, stated that no school can run without the No Objection Certificate (NOC) of the local governing body, as defined under provisions of the Right to Education Act, 2009.It was also mentioned in the letter that parents should not enroll their children in IIS.
However, the letter did not specify if the school had obtained the NOC. Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi, who had taken the school on rent, said the school has been running since last so many years and alleged that this was nothing but harassment
