Aadhaar Not Important For Bank Accounts And Phones For Now: SC

The Supreme Court today said Aadhaar will not be mandatory for services like banking, mobile phone connections and tatkal passport till a decision been taken on the matter.

The court which is hearing a bunch of petitions challenging validity of 12-digit Unique Identification number also extended March 31 deadline for mandatory linking of Aadhaar till it rules on petitions challenging validity of Aadhaar Act.

SC, however, said Aadhaar will be necessary only for social schemes.
