EC Announces Poll Schedule, Telugu States To Go To Polls On April 11
Hyderabad, March 10 (Maxim News): The Election Commission today announced the schedule for general elections 2019 in seven phases. The election code has come into force across the country with this. CEC Sunil Arora told a press conference in Delhi that two Telugu States – Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will go to polls on April 11 and the results for all the polls will be announced on May 23. CEC made arrangements for smooth and fair polling for 175 MLA seats in AP, Odisha 147 MLA seats, Arunachal Pradesh 60 MLA seats, Sikkim 32 MLA seats and MP seats too. The EC has made exercise with CEOs of the respective States for the purpose with all measures.
Polling will be held in the first phase for 91 seats in 20 States, 115 seats in 13 States in second phase, 115 seats in 14 States in third phase, 71 seats in nine States in 4th phase, 51 seats in five States in fifth phase. Similarly 59 seats in seven States in sixth phase and 59 seats in the last phase. Two Telugu States will go to polls in first phase and also four States.
Arora informed that 10 lakh polling stations will be set up in coordination with the States and Union territories for smooth conduct of the general polls. Keeping in view the examinations, festivals and harvest time, the polls will be held in a free and fair manner. Poll chits will be given to the electors five days ahead of the polls and 12 types of identity cards can be used to cast their votes. “We are making elaborate arrangements for impartial and transparent conduct of the polls”, he said.
The EC will release the notification on March 18, election for Lok Sabha seats in Telangana State and Assembly and Lok Sabha seats in AP will be held on April 11. Scrutiny of nominations on March 26, withdrawal on March 28, Polling on April 11 and results on May 23. (Maxim News)
