The case was registered at the Siliguri Cyber Crime Police Station based on a complaint filed by advocate Rinki Sen Chatterjee.

According to the complaint, Banerjee made the remarks while addressing a protest gathering on Rani Rashmoni Road in Kolkata on June 2. The comments related to the murder of Bangladesh national Osman Hadi and the subsequent arrest of suspects by West Bengal’s Special Task Force (STF).

The complainant alleged that Banerjee’s statements indirectly implicated the Union Home Ministry and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the matter.

Rinki Sen Chatterjee stated that Hadi was killed in Bangladesh in December last year and that the accused later crossed into India through the Meghalaya border before being arrested by the STF in West Bengal.

She alleged that Banerjee’s remarks could affect India’s image internationally and potentially fuel tensions between India and Bangladesh. The complaint also claimed that the statements could have implications for the security of Hindus living in Bangladesh.

Addressing the protest meeting, Banerjee referred to the arrest of a Bangladesh-linked accused by the STF and discussed cross border movement through Meghalaya. She also made references to statements previously attributed to the Union Home Minister.
