Rain, Thunderstorm Lash Parts of State, City
Hyderabad: There was some respite from the sweltering heat for people in Telangana as thunderstorms lashed several parts of the State on Friday night providing much-needed relief. However, farmers were subjected to miseries as farm produce being dried after harvesting or stored in open places got washed away at several places in districts.
Heatwave conditions were prevailing in several districts with the temperatures soaring to five degrees above normal even as the lockdown to check covid-19 continued to affect normal life in the State. Saturday morning saw a cool breeze wafting across several districts, but distraught farmers were at a loss.

Light to moderate rainfall in Kothagudem
People in many parts of Kothagudem district have received respite from summer heat as light to moderate rainfall was witnessed in those parts on Friday and Saturday. Places like Pinapaka, Gundala, Allapalli, Paloncha, Tekulapalli, Burgampahad, Cherla, Chunchupalli, received rainfall during the past during the past 24 hours. The rainfall, accompanied gales and thunders lasted for a brief time.
A few areas in Kothagudem district headquarters and Bhadrachalam received light rainfall on Saturday morning. It was said that Pinapaka in Kothagudem received 27.4 mm rainfall. No loss of life was reported, however power supply was disrupted following rains.
Moderate rains lash Mancherial and Adilabad
Moderate rains coupled with gales lashed several parts of Mancherial district, wreaking havoc in mango orchards and disrupting supply of power on Friday midnight.
According to Telangana State Development and Planning Society’s website, Dandepalli, Mancherial, Mandamarri, Bellampalli, Nennal, Bheemini, Kannepalli, Tandur, Kotapalli, Chennur, Vemanapalli, Kasipet and Luxettipet mandals recorded somewhere between 15.6 mm and 64.4 mm of rainfall. Jaipur and Bhimaram mandals registered heavy rains.
Meanwhile, Sirpur (T) and Rebena of Kumram Bheem Asifabad district saw moderate rains. Jainoor, Lingapur, Asifabad, Wankidi, Tiryani, Dahegaon and Kaghznagar mandals experienced light rains. Sirpur (U), Kerameri and Penchikalpet mandals witnessed very light rains. Narnoor and Bazarhathnoor belonging to Adilabad district, Laxmanachanda and Pembi of Nirmal district registered light rainfall.
Due to the unseasonal rains, mango trees were damaged and large quantities of paddy produce rushed to procurement centres was drenched, resulting losses to farmers of Mancherial district. Authorities of Horticulture department said that a survey would be carried out for assessing the losses caused by the showers in a couple days. They stated tarpaulins would be given to the growers of paddy.
Strong gales snapped power lines, hitting electricity in many urban and rural parts of Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad district. Power was interrupted in Bellaampalli, Srirampur, Luxettipet and Mandamarri towns from 12.30 am till 6 am. Tin-roofed houses collapsed. However, no casualties were reported and none was injured.
Several mandals got heavy rain in Yadadri-Bhongir
Several villages in Yadagirigutta, Motakondur and Alair mandals in the district witnessed thunderstorms on Saturday.
The temple town Yadagirigutta witnessed a heavy rain in early morning of the day. The heavy rain affected the electricity supply to several village in the three mandals. No loss of life and property was reported yet in the district due to rain.
No rain was reported in Nalgonda and Suryapet districts.
Rains lash Palamuru region
There has been respite from soaring temperatures across the Palamuru region comprising five districts, as monsoons seem to have arrived early this year. Light drizzles and cloudy skies have brought down the temperatures on Saturday.
Very light rainfall was recorded in Ghattu and Aiza mandals of Jogulamba Gadwal district and also in Jadcherla and Bhootpur mandals of Mahabubnagar districts. Some parts of Narayanpet district have received light to moderate rainfall on Saturday morning. Marikal and Dhanwada received moderate rainfall of 29.6 mm, whereas Narayanpet and Utkoor have received light rainfall of 12.6 mm and 13.2 mm respectively.
Isolated places were expected to receive very light to light rainfall in Wanaparthy district in the next 24 hours and parts of Mahabubnagar and Narayanpet districts which lie close to the borders of the two districts were expected to receive very light to light rainfall in the next 48 hours. Several parts of Narayanpet, Jogulamba Gadwal, Mahabubnagar, Wanaparthy and isolated places in Nagarkurnool district were expected to receive very light to light rainfall in the next 72 hours, according to Telangana State Development and Planning Society’s weather forecast.
No loss of life or damage to property was reported since Friday night.
Several parts of erstwhile Warangal district record light to heavy rainfall
Several parts of erstwhile Warangal district have recorded light to heavy rainfall in the wee hours of Saturday. Due to the rains, paddy and maize that was in the drying yards and at the purchasing centres was soaked completely.
While all most all the mandals in Warangal Rural and Mulugu districts have recorded the rainfall, Kothaguda, Gangaram, Danthalapally and Kesamudram mandals in Mahabubabad district recorded rainfall. Hailstorm and thundershowers were also recorded at several places. Khanapur mandal in Warangal Rural district recorded 7.78 cm rainfall, Duggondi- 6.92 cm, and Nallebelli -5.56 cm. Three sheep belonging to one Mogili Satyam were killed by the lightning strike in Khanapur mandal. Narsampet MLA Peddi Sudharshan Reddy has visted the paddy procurement centre at Ashok Nagar village in Khnanapur mandal and asked the farmers not to worry about the soaked paddy as the government would purchase each grain of paddy. He also said that he would ensure compensation to the sheep farmer whose sheep were killed by the lightning.
Moderate to light rain recorded in old Karimnagar
Moderate to light rain was recorded in the erstwhile Karimnagar district. People got panicky as heavy winds hit many areas in the wee hours on Saturday.
The highest of 72.2 mm rainfall was recorded in Dharmaram mandal followed by Manthani 45.5 mm. Paddy and maize crops stored at purchasing centers were socked in rain water.
While maize crop stored in Dharmaram market yard was washed away in rain water. Paddy stored at Appannapet paddy purchasing centers and other areas was also socked in the rain water.
