Hyderabad: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs G Kishan Reddy has urged Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao to issue necessary permissions allowing the Central Railway Hospital at Lalaguda to provide COVID-19 treatment for railway employees and their families. He said such a move will also reduce burden on Gandhi and other hospitals in the wake of increasing number of coronavirus cases in Hyderabad and its surroundings.
In a letter to the Chief Minister on Friday, the Union Minister, who represents Secunderabad Parliamentary constituency, said he had received numerous representations from working and retired railway employees of South Central Railway, seeking COVID-19 treatment at the Central Railway Hospital where the railways’ families receive treatment for majority of their health problems. He pointed out that the railway employees were at a greater risk of contracting coronavirus due to their working conditions and exposure to the public.
Kishan Reddy said though the Central government had issued special permissions to the Central Railway Hospital at Lalaguda and Divisional Hospital at Vijayawada to provide treatment to COVID-19 patients, the Telangana State government was yet to approve the same. “As a result, railway employees and their family members are under severe stress. Hence, I request the State government to expedite the process and issue necessary permissions at the earliest,” he added.
