Adilabad: In a major crackdown, Jainath police busted a racket involving trading in banned gutka and arrested two person after conducting raids on a farmhouse on Tuesday. Large quantities of gutka products and a four-wheeler were recovered from them. The value of the products was assessed to be Rs 30 lakh. Two more accused are absconding.
Jainath Inspector Konka Mallesh said the accused included Bhushan Tripati and Nadeem Khan, residents of Adilabad district centre. The kingpin of the racket, Shami Ullah Khan or Shammu and Paresh Ravarani, were still at large. The two were detained when they were moving suspiciously at the farm house belonging to Ravarani of Adilabad town, following a tip.
During the course of interrogation, the two confessed to committing the offence by becoming a part of the racket formed by Shami for quite long. They admitted that they were storing the products in the farmhouse to hoodwink policemen, with sleuths of Task Force clamping down on the menace. They revealed that they were disposing of the products by the four-wheeler.
They duo stated that they were selling the products to merchants across the district and certain parts of Yavatmal district of neighboring Maharashtra. They told policemen that they were importing it from Karnataka using a container. They added that they shifted their den to the farmhouse from Adilabad town recently.
The Inspector stated that efforts were on to nab the remaining accused. He cautioned that stern action would be taken against those who indulge in unlawful activities and trading of gutka was banned by the government.
Adilabad Superintendent of Police Vishnu S Warrier and DSP Venkateshwara Rao commended Mallesh and his team members including Sub-Inspector Venkanna, Assistant SI Jeevan Rao for cracking the racket.
