The High Court on Monday refused to stay GHMC elections when hearing public interest litigation filed by Congress leader Dasoju Sravan.
The court observed that it could not stay elections as the petition was filed in the last minute when the election commission gearing up to announce the election notification. Dasoju Sravan in his petition stated that GHMC elections will have to be held after rotation of reservation.
The petitioner stated that the BC reservations are being implemented against the Supreme Court’s order and people from politically backward classes are not being recognized.
However, the court questioned as to why the petitioner had not responded for the last 10 years if he cared for the welfare of most backward classes (MBC). The court stated that no stay could be imposed on the elections and the matter will be investigated.
It further asked the government, GHMC and election commission to filed a counter affidavit.
