Hyderabad, May 5: KL Rahul said he was not considered a T20 or even a white ball player early in his career. He said he was labelled only as a Test specialist, which made his journey challenging.
Now playing for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2026, Rahul is delivering strong performances. He shared his views during the ‘Superstars’ programme on JioHotstar.
KL Rahul Opens Up on T20 Struggles and Growth
Rahul said that 10 years ago he worked hard to get into T20 teams. However, he was not recognised as a T20 player and was not even seen as a white ball cricketer. He said he feels proud of how far he has come after overcoming that image.
He added that improving his white ball game helped him break the tag. He admitted making mistakes during his journey. However, he said he always aimed to deliver his best performance and continues to work on improving his game.
Rahul also spoke about fatherhood and its impact. He and Athiya Shetty welcomed a daughter last year. He said he earlier believed he understood happiness and peace, but realised otherwise after becoming a father.
He said his daughter’s smile, hugs and affection help him forget pain and stress. He added that this change has helped his cricket over the past year. He also said he now avoids overthinking and sees the game with a clearer mindset.
In IPL 2026, Rahul has scored 433 runs in nine matches. He is in the Orange Cap race and currently holds the second position, underlining his strong form this season.
