Hyderabad: Petrol and diesel rates across the country hit fresh record highs on Tuesday after they were hiked sharply for the eighth consecutive day.

Petrol and diesel prices: Retail prices of automobile fuels have reached record highs across the country. Petrol and diesel are taxed heavily in India, and oil price decontrol is a one-way street — the consumer never benefits.
Petrol price has been hiked by roughly 30 paise across the country, while diesel has increased by approximately 35 paise.
The price of petrol has never been higher in the national capital. Even then, the situation in Delhi looks good in comparison to states like Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Petrol price in these three states is much higher in comparison.
In Mumbai, a litre of petrol is retailing at Rs 95.75 while in some districts like Parbhani, the price for a litre of petrol has crossed the century-mark — something that has never happened in the country before. Not just Maharashtra, but the price of petrol is close to the century-mark in several cities across Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, where the average rate is roughly Rs 98-99.
Petrol price:
Petrol price in other major cities has also increased after today’s rise. In Kolkata, petrol price has increased to Rs 90.54, while it is retailing at Rs 91.45 in Chennai. People in Bengaluru are paying over Rs 92 for a litre of petrol, while the rate in Jaipur is Rs 95.75. In nine out of 14 major cities, petrol is retailing above Rs 90 per litre.
Oil marketing companies have also hiked diesel price by approximately 35 paise. In Delhi, the price of diesel is close to touching the Rs 80-mark for the first time ever.
In Kolkata, it has crossed the Rs 83-mark for the first time, while it is retailing at Rs 86.72 in Mumbai — one of the highest diesel rates in the country. In Jaipur and other places in Rajasthan, a litre of diesel is retailing at roughly Rs 88-90. In Sriganganagar in Rajasthan, diesel price has crossed the Rs 91-mark.
Out of 14 major cities, there are nine where a litre of diesel is retailing at the upper-band of Rs 80 — a major concern for a nation that trying to recover from the economic shock, triggered by the coronavirus pandemic.
