Hyderabad: Heavy Rush at Wine Shops, After Lockdown News
As the news about the lockdown started circulating on various social media platforms and vernacular news channels apart from news websites, long queues were seen in front of the wine shops. At most shops, customers failed to adhere to the Covid safety protocols while standing in queues.
Hyderabad, May 11: Minutes after the State government announced the lockdown on Tuesday, wine shops in the twin cities witnessed a mad rush as tipplers thronged in large numbers to purchase stocks.
As the news about the lockdown started circulating on various social media platforms and vernacular news channels apart from news websites, long queues were seen in front of the wine shops. At most shops, customers failed to adhere to the Covid-19 safety protocols while standing in queues.
In spite of the shopkeepers requesting them to maintain physical distance while standing in queues in front of the counter, customers jostled with each other to purchase liquor. Some customers failed to wear the face masks properly.
Even after the wine shops owners informed the customers that there was sufficient stock to sell till night, customers continued to ignore the Covid norms and jostled with each other to buy the stock in large quantities.
In a few areas, the police rushed to the shops to manage the queues.
