2 Crore Vaccinations Completed in Telangana
Hyderabad: Telangana has achieved a unique milestone in its fight to contain the Covid-19 pandemic when it completed administering 2 crore (20 million) Covid vaccines on Wednesday. The 2 crore Covid vaccines includes individuals who have received at least one dose of the Covid vaccines.
Overall, roughly there are 2.87 crore individuals in Telangana who are above 18 years and are eligible to receive Covid vaccines. So far, 2 crore individuals out of these have received at least one dose.
“This is a proud moment because we have achieved a significant milestone in the vaccination programme against Covid in Telangana. The milestone is very important because we administered the first 1 crore vaccines in 168 days and the next 1 crore Covid vaccines were administered in just 78 days,” Director of Public Health (DPH) Dr G Srinivasa Rao said on Wednesday.
The Covid vaccination drive was launched on January 16 this year and initially the programme was covering healthcare workers, frontline workers and senior citizens, before the entire initiative was opened up for individuals above 18 years from May 1.
“Apart from the commitment of the last level field functionary of our department, the support from line departments, the backup we received from the highest level of political and administrative wings, the enthusiastic participation of public for vaccination at government and private Covid Vaccination Centres has made this possible,” Dr Rao said.
