Twelve more test Omicron positive at the RGIA

Hyderabad, Jan 1: Twelve more international passengers who had arrived at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad have tested positive for Omicron variant on Saturday, taking the overall number of positive Omicron cases to 79 in Telangana.

Out of the 12 Omicron positive international passengers, 9 travelers had arrived at Hyderabad airport from non-at-risk countries while the rest of the 3 passengers were from at-risk countries, a health bulletin released by Director of Public Health (DPH), Dr G Srinivasa Rao, on Saturday said.

Overall, 40 international travelers from non-at-risk countries, 8 travelers from at-risk countries and 4 close contacts of international passengers have tested positive for Omicron while 27 travelers have recovered and discharged from TIMS, Gachibowli.

On Saturday, a total of 123 travelers had arrived at RGIA, Shamshabad out of which 10 have tested Covid positive and their blood samples have been sent for full genome sequencing to ascertain their Omicron status. So far, 12, 692 international passengers have undergone RT-PCR tests at RGIA Shamshabad out of which 144 have tested Covid positive, out of which 79 were Omicron positive.
