Govt is Not Responsible for Submergence of Pump Houses: Niranjan

Hyderabad, July 24 (Maxim News): Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy said the State government is not responsible for the submergence of Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project pump houses and the unprecedented floods have caused the damage to the pump houses.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, Minister Niranjan Reddy said it was nothing new for the submergence of projects when the heavy floods were received and also reminded that the Srisailam project was submerged in 1998 and 2009 and the Kalvakurthi project was inundated twice under the tenure of Congress government in the combined Andhra Pradesh.

Finding fault with the statements of Congress and BJP leaders who alleged that the Kaleshwaram project pump houses were submerged due to faulty design of the project, Niranjan Reddy said that Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had made a big exercise and consulted number of experts before taking up the Kaleshwaram project and the project was redesigned by shifting from Thammidihetti to Medigadda.

He reminded that many engineers and exrpets termed the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project as an engineering marvel and said that it would transform the agriculture scenario in Telangana.

The Minister said the corruption charges leveled by Congress and BJP leaders against the Kaleshwaram project were baseless and the project was constructed for benefiting the farming sector in Telangana. (Maxim News)
