KCR may include 12 Per Cent Muslim Quota in BRS Agenda

Muslim Quota | Hyderabad, Jan 1 (Maxim News): In view of failing to implement the long pending promise to the Muslim Minorities in Telangana since 2014 of providing 12 per cent reservation for the socially and economically backward among the Muslim community in Educational institutions and government jobs, because of the alleged anti Muslim (BJP) government at the Center, the National President of BRS and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao may include this issue of Muslim Reservation in the BRS agenda which would benefit to the Muslims at National level.

However, it cannot be denied the KCR efforts to increase the Muslims Reservations from the present 4 per cent to 12 per cent saying that it is equivalent to the Muslim Population in the State of Telangana.

KCR held a special session of Telangana Assembly in April 2017 was called, before the 2018 General Assembly Elections and a bill to increase reservations for backward sections among Muslims to 12 per cent was unanimously passed.

The decision took the total quota in the state to over 50 per cent– the limit set by the Supreme Court.

The BJP had called the move unconstitutional and alleged that KCR was trying to provide reservation in the name of religion. However, dismissing the allegations, KCR said he was confident of getting the enhanced quotas legalised by incorporating them in the Ninth Schedule of the Constitution through a constitutional amendment. KCR stated the same was done in Tamilnadu in 1994 wherein the overall quota for various groups is 69 per cent.

The KCR government forwarded the Muslim Reservation Bill to the Union Government. The KCR government also passed a resolution asking the Centre to clear the Bill.

The BJP government at the Centre categorically refused the request of the KCR government, stating that religion-based reservation cannot be allowed.

The KCR government argued that they plan to provide the reservations only to the socially and economically backward among the Muslim community.

According to some Muslim leaders argued that they never believed the promise of 12 per cent reservation for the Muslim community even on the floor of the House, One of the Muslim Member has cautioned KCR saying that passing the resolution in the Assembly and moving to the Supreme Court on getting 12 percent reservation may led to losing the present 4 per cent reservation, he made this comments before passing the resolution in the Assembly.

Some Muslim leaders outside the Assembly said that the promise was a political move to win over the community.

The bedrock of employment is education but unfortunately today, government schools and colleges are being shut down or being converted into self-aided institutions, leaving students who benefitted from it to fund for themselves.
