Hyderabad, March 15: GHMC Commissioner Ronald Rose stated that steps are being taken as planned for the development of Hyderabad city. Trainee IASs from six states visited GHMC to study best practices.

16 IAS from the states of Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand who are undergoing training in Mussoorie arrived at GHMC on Friday as part of a two-day visit.

Commissioner Ronald Rose briefed them on GHMC’s best practices through a PowerPoint presentation at Panwar Hall, GHMC headquarters.

On this occasion, Commissioner Ronald Rose said that the measures taken towards the development of Hyderabad city, along with sanitation management, increasing greenery, town planning, and making it a clean and green city, are bearing fruit. He said that every day 4500 Swachh Autos will collect garbage from every house in the city and every day 7500 metric tons of garbage will be collected and moved to the Jawahar Nagar dump yard, and vermicompost will be made with that. It was explained that construction waste (C&D) plants have been set up and 1500 metric tonnes of C&D are being collected every day. He explained that flyovers, roads, other infrastructure, and social security schemes have been implemented with the help of the state government for the development of the city.

He said that there are 6 zones and 30 circles in GHMC, especially the sources of income for GHMC are generated through building permits, house tax, advertisements, and trade licenses. He said that there are about 22 thousand employees of various categories for the management of sanitation works in GHMC and they are being provided with free health check-ups, ESI, EPI, and insurance facilities.

He explained the measures taken for the development of Nala so that people do not suffer from rains and floods. He said that a Disaster Response Force has been set up in GHMC, which provides enforcement, vigilance, and disaster management services during floods, fires, trees uprooted by strong winds, buildings collapse, and other emergencies.

He explained that the government gives the highest priority to people’s health, services are being provided through Basti Dawakhanas, issuance of birth and death certificates, measures taken on food safety, and maintenance of roads. He said that GHMC is running a five-rupee meal scheme and 30,000 meals are being provided every day.

It was explained to them that 10 percent of the budget would be allocated as a green budget and such funds would be used for the maintenance of parks and greenery.
