Aadhaar, PAN, Ration Cards Are Not Proof Of Citizenship: Center
Delhi/Hyderabad, May 1 (Maxim News): The Center has clarified that Aadhaar, PAN and Ration cards are not definitive proof of Indian citizenship. It has said that only birth and domicile certificates are valid for determining citizenship. It has said tht Aadhaar and PAN only confirm personal identity.
It said that these instructions were decided after it was noticed that many people came to our country illegally and applied for citizenship after obtaining Aadhaar, ration and PAN cards.

Aadhaar, PAN and ration cards are used for administrative and welfare purposes. None of these can confirm citizenship, Indian citizenship cannot be confirmed by looking at such identity cards.
“Domiciles and birth certificates are considered as primary evidence for obtaining citizenship, so it is important for all people to have them. In case, those who do not have a birth certificate can use a domicile certificate,” the central government said. (Maxim News)
